Tsuburaya Productions Co., Ltd. is an independent television and film production company founded in 1963 by internationally famous special effects man Eiji Tsuburaya. We also specialize in creating live stage events featuring our own characters as well as those of other production companies.

Overview:

With over forty years experience, Tsuburaya Productions is one of Japan’s oldest and most respected independent film and television production companies. Our most famous program is the Ultraman TV and film series begun in 1966 which has been seen in over 100 territories worldwide and has spawned over 3,000 licensed products. Besides Ultraman, Tsuburaya Productions is a fully integrated production, marketing and events company.

Eiji Tsuburaya:

Before founding Tsuburaya Productions in 1963, Eiji Tsuburaya was already world famous as the special effects director of the classic Godzilla movies. Besides filming giant prehistoric monsters, outer space invasions and natural disasters, Eiji was also known for his realistic recreations of war time scenes, leading to his employment in Frank Sinatra’s war epic None But the Brave. Eiji also directed effects in such non-science fiction films as The Three Treasures starring Toshiro Mifune and worked on Akira Kurosawa’s Throne of Blood, as well as many others. Eiji’s aim was to create a state-of-the-art production facility that would remain on the cutting edge of special effects technology, which could handle not only the special effects portions of production, but could also create fully realized motion pictures and TV shows of the highest caliber. More Than TV and Movies:

Tsuburaya Productions does more than make TV shows and films. Our Business Division oversees the marketing and licensing of all of our characters both domestically and internationally. Our Events Division creates and organizes live-stage events featuring Ultraman and other Tsuburaya characters as well as characters created by other producers. Our Talent Division promotes the careers of numerous talented actors and musicians.
